Holiday Market posterIn December of 2007, several clergy members in our community were gathered for a a holiday lunch meeting.  As they talked about their lives and their holiday festivities, it was mentioned that some of them had participated in various alternative markets at various faith communities at differing points in their ministries.
A light bulb went on.
Why aren’t we doing this together? Our market was born.
In November 2008 we held our first county-wide Multi-Faith Alternative Holiday Market.  Gathering over 30 non-profit organizations together in the Community Building at Bloedel-Donovan Park.  Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists, Muslims, and Unitarians were joined together in one common goal:
To spend our holy days in holy ways and our holiday dollars in responsible, compassionate ways.
Our markets continued for 8 years and varied from large events to small, from public spaces to houses of worship. Featuring live music, homemade goodies, handcrafted gifts, and non-profits from far and wide.
What will the future bring? Time will tell.  And we can hardly wait.
In the meantime, if you know of any non-profits that should be included on this site, please let us know. Just e-mail  The criteria? They must be working to help God’s people, God’s creatures, or God’s creation.
